Much of my work focuses on the spiritual, religious, personal. I’ve spent a lot of past work exploring the internal world of the mind and the heart, where the seats of spirituality, joy and agony can reside. I enjoy the deep waters of self-reflection and expression within my own lifelong wrestle that I pursue with the Divine. I will continue to pursue those themes in 2023, however I’ve chosen two specific additional avenues to add to my exploratory journey:
At the end of 2022 I had decided to set my attention and intention on the relationships I look after and foster, focusing on those elements that make them nourishing, valuable, and essential. I want to explore all those aspects in every kind of relationship we all experience that fills us up and teaches us, gives us grace, challenges, and informs who we are at different moments in our life’s journey. So I hope to turn my reflections from the internal space to the external world where the greatest work takes place in repairing broken bridges, mending hearts, and healing communities. I want to explore both the intimacy of two and the blessed communion of the many.
I also want to begin focusing specifically on modern Latter Day Saint culture holding up a mirror to the experience both in grace and self-reflection. I hope that as I explore this community that has given me so much, I can challenge it to take steps forward toward the light of a more expansive approach to spirituality and inclusivity in culture and doctrine. I want to address both the light and dark aspects of this culture and ethnic group to and for which I feel so deeply responsible. And addressing the power of community and relationship as it interplays with the backdrop of a religious community on the brink holds so much creative promise. The Latter Day Saint religious community is on the precipice of tremendous spiritual growth and potential and I hope to find the best ways to capture this very ripe moment.
